The Ralph Capristo Memorial Project: Students Developing Military Awareness and Showing Support

Students at Jenny Lynn Elementary in Kingston, PA created The Ralph Capristo Memorial Project to promote good citizenship through military awareness by celebrating and supporting our veterans and current servicemen and women. Ralph Capristo was a World War II veteran and a beloved member of the local community. The students are celebrating his life and service by participating in a two-part annual school project that helps support past and current serving US troops.

The children prepare by practicing a number of patriotic songs to put on a performance for military veterans at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center. Students visit the local veterans and share letters and projects they prepared to thank them for their service. This year, the residents expressed their gratitude for the students’ performance and one veteran called the school to personally thank the teachers and children for their special visit that meant so much to him.

For the second leg of the project, the elementary students sponsor care packages with letters and cards to send to current servicemen and women. The students wish to give back to those who sacrifice so much each and every day to ensure the safety of our country. The school has teamed up with Military Connections out of Pittsburg, PA to sponsor the care packages annually. Through the Ralph Capristo Memorial Project the Jenny Lynn students have the opportunity to learn about the US military while giving just a little back to those who have given so much.
